It's a great appliance but has a few nuances

We did a LOT of homework before buying this model. We love this cooktop. Replaced a old GE cooktop. Compared to the KitchenAid model this one has a much better quality steel (scratch resistant), the knobs are also made of steel (v/s plastic which looks like steel on the KitchenAid) and brass burners (v/s alumunium on the Kitchen Aid). I like the automatic flame reigniter also but it see below. The grates and burner tops were discolored during the first week but customer care sent me a replacement set (note that cosmetic issues are only covered for the first 30 days). The replacement has been okay so far. The fan is VERY powerful and effective, even at low. The fan is more silent than my old GE but it's still loud. This has a few nuances you need to be aware of. 1. When using the flame at "low" AND the fan is on, the flame starts flicking and the this kicks on the automatic flame reigniter which things the flame is out. So you need to increase a flame past minimum when using the fan. 2. The flame on the FAR end of the burner (opposite end to the fan grate) burns brighter and the flame near the fan intake side of the burner burns lower. The designers apparently have accounted for the fan being on all the time in their design of the burners so, when the fan is on, it far end is sucked in and there's an even flame all around the pan. However when the fan is OFF, the far end of the flame on the burner is almost 2 times higher than the burner end closer to the fan. So this causes the pan to heat unevenly, infact with the largest burners it even goes all the way around the pan and can burn your hands if you aren't careful. Note this only seems to impact the cooking at high flame, at lower flames it tends to be equal on all sides. This design issue is why I've given it 4 stars, while I appreciate the thought into keeping the flame even with the fan on, it makes cooking on high flame impossible with the fan off due to uneven heating. But our GE cooktop never has this to with the fan on it was impossible to cook evenly. It's how you look at it :) We still prefer this since with the fan on you can use it as high flame, with the fan off you typically don't ever need high flame since the burners are so BIG so it works out fine. But something to be aware of depending on your cooking style. Otherwise we love our new cooktop and it's easy to clean.

I therefore am surprised for heightened Jennair interest to offer me extended warranties on a new unit. Should I be concerned? Unit works as specified - no extra value for money and I have two serious concerns: 1. the unit's gastop signage for each dial looks fragile, too light to read, and appears to be faded. 2. performance - I will only review a product after 6, 12 months, then 1 and 3 year.

Cooks Wonderful with Minor Issues

I have had the gas downdraft for about 6 months. We purchased it specifically because it had one of the highest CFMs (450). When the downdraft vent is on LOW and a burner is on low or a bit higher, the flame is pulled away from the electronic igniter causing the igniter to "click" or try to ignite the gas. After a JennAir service rep looked at the problem the JennAir fix was to put a restrictor on the downdraft to lower the CFMs. I was also told not to use it until I was finished cooking Not good answers JennAir. I wouldn't spend this much. You can get a less expensive downdraft with equal pull.

Convenient, easy to use

We bought the cooktop when we remodeled our kitchen. My wife especially likes the sleek design. The burners provide a variety of btus from 5k to 18k. Initially, I was looking at a competitors product that would have enabled higher btus, but it required a hood and we needed a downdraft (and my wife thought it looked too commercial/bulky). We had space for the 5-burner JennAir model, but I like the design of the 4 burner better and this gave us 6 more inches of counter space.

Arrived damaged and no help from Jenn Air

The top grate of the cooktop was mismatched and the knobs to control the burners and fan were bent. I would think purchasing a high end appliance for $1,900 there would not be any issues and if there was they should take care of it. I called Jenn Air support and they refused to do anything. The person I spoke with was extremely rude and when I indicated I would not purchase Jen Air products in the future, she responded by saying I probably shouldn't.

Love everything about it but the markings on the knobs could be better to read. I would prefer black markings rather than the stainless markings on stainless. The hi -low & med markings just blend with the stainless cooktop. If there is a glare you can't see the burner displays at all. Other manufactures had better markings but we wanted to replace our old Jenn-air with another one since we were happy with it & lasted so long.

I had to replace my model from 2014 and this new model is much improved. It's much easier to clean and the whole design works better than the original one I had. I was sad to get rid of my old one but this is better. The quality of the knobs is better adn the design of the burners is much better for cleaning and for aesthetics.

We have had two glass cooktops over the years, and both developed cracks in the tops after on about a year of use. The burners were also not susceptible to fine temperature control, and you had to watch food carefully to keep the temperature from running away and burning the food. This solves both problems. Temperature control is magnificent.

Sleek Cooktop with Powerful Downdraft System!

We bought this Jenn-Air Gas Downdraft Cooktop to replace an old Thermador with a separate downdraft system when we recently remodeled our kitchen. We are so pleased that the JennAir is more powerful than our older unit and is quieter on all three speeds. The stainless steel finish is lovely and the cooktop easy to clean! We love that it has an ultra high burner as well as a ultra low burner with a melting cap to prevent sauces from burning. The control knobs are located along the right side of the unit which makes cooking easier and they are out of the way of accidental drips and spills. We could not be happier or more pleased with this Jenn-Air unit!

We purchased this a few weeks ago to replace an electric jennair model. it took the dealer almost a month to get it in which was disappointing but happy it finally arrived. It's nice to have a gas range again. We also thought the opening for the 30" gas range would be the same as the 30" electric range of the same dimensions but it was significantly smaller. It literally fell through the counter opening. I believe the original contractor made the hole too big but was surprised it wasn't standard with the previous electric jennair. We hired a metal fabricator to make us a metal liner to make this fit so we didn't have to replace the counter as we had already had the gas installed. It looks like it came with the range so we are happy we can finally use it. Thabk you

Beautiful, Sleek Kitchen Upgrade

I received the Jenn Air cooktop as a gift from my brother, what a pleasant surprise, and the perfect addition to put the best finishing touch on my kitchen! Odd to call an appliance beautiful, but that's just what it is. Operationally, I couldn't ask for an item with better quality. From the BTUs, to the quiet and efficient operation of the downdraft, to the grates over the burners, and the placement of the controls, it's a gem. I had a previous model, and there have been quite a few upgrades and updates which make this model a great replacement! The delivery was fast, the install was seamless, the technicians were professional. I could not be happier with the choice. It will be a pleasure to have in my home for years to come.

This is my third JennAir gas downdraft cooktop. I am constrained by location in my kitchen and the width of my counter (against a wall and not in an island). My first one, in 1990, I hated. The replacement ten years later was black glass which I LOVE the look of and the ease of cleaning glass. Now, the newest cooktop is stainless. The knobs are better, the fan now has three speeds and the well the vent screen sits in is not as deep. Grates are now a cast iron product and not enamel that chipped off.

Powerful cooktop!

We've always had a JennAir cooktop as our kitchen only has a downdraft. I wasn't very happy that I was limited to one or two brands at first, but the improvements in the gas cook top are fantastic! The different size burners are all powerful and the black grates look like they'll hold up great. I love the look of the cooktop and the easy clean up. The vent still draws the flame, so that hasn't been as 'fixed' as we were told, but overall the other improvements are great.

Solid CookTop

I bought this about a month ago. It is a great upgrade from the previous JennAir model we had. The brass burners work extremely well and the melt cap comes in handy when you are simmering sauces. The grate design is great with the built in downdraft. It gives you the ability to transfer easily between burners. Great product!

Too quality materials and design

Bought appliance a month ago and very pleased with delivery and installation services. Great burners but would have preferred three different sizes rather than a separate attachment piece, which is easy to misplace. Love the look of the "integrated" range. However, think it's overpriced! We bought it to replace old one and thus choices were limited.

Fantastic Cooktop

We had an older model JennAir gas cooktop that needed replacing. The unit had a downdraft feature that was not available from any other manufacturer. We were extremely pleased with our upgrade to the newer model. Very handsome!! Great even heat distribution and excellent downdraft feature with quiet blower. We were more than satisfied with our purchase

Jx3 gas cooktop upgrade

I bought this cook top to convert from electric to gas. easy installation. easy to use. Burners have nice range of btu's and water boils quickly on largest one at 6500ft altitude. Cleaning isn't too bad. The downdraft filter catches crumbs and food and can easily be pulled and run through a faucet to clean. It looks nice in our countertops and definitely adds to the kitchen appearance. Would buy again.

as I said I like the stainless. my former jenn-air was a four burner with a center downdraft with a glass base. I can honestly say I hated it. Cleanup was a nightmare. I like the simmer burner is in the back so more frequently used burners are up front and more convenient.I also like the vent is more shallow and easier to clean. I like that the knobs are stainless. my former ones were plastic. tacky

Great Stove!

This stove is great! I love that the knobs are stainless and are on the side of the stove. Our last stove had plastic knobs in the middle and we were forever melting them. It's easy to clean, attractive, and cooks great!

THE GRATES ARE TOO ROUGH TOO SLIDE A LARGE KETTLE OF BOILING POTATOES OFF. THE KNOBS BECOME TOO HOT TO TURN OFF. DID YOU TEST IT????
